  • Stunning Interior Design with Creative Living Room Partitions

Stunning Interior Design with Creative Living Room Partitions

Why You Need a Living Room Partition

A well-designed living room partition can greatly enhance the functionality and aesthetic appeal of your home. In this article, we’ll explore the various types of partitions, materials, and design ideas to help you create a space that’s both beautiful and functional.

Why Consider a Living Room Partition?

Living room partitions serve a multitude of purposes. They can help divide areas within an open-plan layout, provide privacy without cutting off the space completely, enhance the designing, and even improve functionality.

Types of Dividers for Living Room

    1. Open Shelves: Open shelves are fantastic partitioning methods that don’t create a visual barrier. They’re perfect for displaying books, plants, and decorative items while allowing light and air to pass through.
    2. Sliding Glass Partitions: Sliding glass partitions create a sense of openness while providing separation. They can be frosted or textured for added privacy.
    3. Wooden Partition: Wooden partitions offer a range of styles, from classic carved screens to modern geometric designs. They add warmth and texture to the room.
    4. Curtains or Fabric Separators: Curtains are a flexible and affordable option. They can be opened or closed as needed, and easily changed to match your mood.
    5. Metal Partitions or Laser-Cut Panels: Metal partitions, especially those with laser-cut designs, create a strong industrial look. They’re indestructible and can be styled with intricate designs.
    6. Plant Walls: Plant walls are a growing trend, allowing for easy installation of potted plants or vertical gardens, bringing life to your modern living room.
    7. Partial Walls: Half-walls are a continuous solution that efficiently divides spaces while creating a sense of connection.
    8. Furniture as Dividers: Large furniture items like bookshelves, sofas, or consoles can serve as makeshift dividers, providing functionality and design.

Choosing the Right Room Partition for Your Living Room

Before selecting a partition, consider the purpose, design, and functionality you want to achieve. Ask yourself:

    • What is the purpose of the partition – to enhance the look, improve functionality, or add privacy?
    • What kind of interior will the partition need to blend with – modern, eclectic, or traditional?
    • Is light and ventilation important, requiring a material that allows for both?
    • What is your budget?

Living Room Partitions – Design Ideas

    1. Create a Rustic Feel with Wooden Slats: Use vertical wooden slats to provide a rustic charm while keeping the space modern. Varying the spacing between slats adds a personal touch.
    2. Bohemian Vibes with Macrame: A macrame partition, either indoors or outdoors, can evoke a bohemian atmosphere. Use natural materials, earthy tones, and greenery to create a cohesive look.
    3. Simply Elegant Metal Lattice: For a rich, grand atmosphere, opt for black or gold matte, intricately designed metal grilles.
    4. Playful Cubby Shelves: Choose open, cubed-shaped shelves that double as a divider and display space for books, collectibles, and decor.
    5. Simple Rattan Screens: Rattan dividers bring a natural, breezy feel, perfect for tropical or beach-inspired designs.
    6. Privacy with Frosted Glass Panels: Frosted glass panels provide a subtle separation, ideal for open layouts.

    Conclusion

A well-designed living room partition can greatly enhance the functionality and aesthetic appeal of your home. By considering the type, material, and design, you can create a space that’s both beautiful and functional. Whether you’re looking to divide areas, add privacy, or simply enhance the look, a living room partition is an excellent solution.

  • DIY Kids Desk Ideas

    DIY Kids Desk Ideas

A lot of parents are homeschooling, virtual schooling, or simply doing homework with their kiddos every day. A kids desk idea that fits your family can make that easier. Depending on whether you need to store curriculum, school multiple siblings, or just need a quiet spot for your kids for an hour in the evening, we’ve found a DIY kids desk perfect for you. And if you don’t have the time to DIY it? (Um, if you’re schooling at home, you may not have time to shower.)

    Kids Desk Ideas

How to Make a Kids Desk

Let’s start with some really simple to make DIY kids desk ideas. This first one from ‘Bloom in the Black’ seriously just requires a screwdriver, and a wood tabletop. A drill would be helpful, but not necessary. Oh, and some of these really cool hairpin legs that she used to make this look like a high-end piece of furniture. What makes this different from just using a table as a desk? Easy. A full-size table is not a comfortable spot for most little ones, and it’s not ergonomically healthy to try to read, write, and work on art projects if your body is uncomfortable.

Lots of desktop space, simple to clean up, and plenty of room underneath for file cabinets if you choose. She even tells you where to find those table legs. If you don’t have an IKEA near you, Lowe’s or a similar store should carry the tabletops. Seriously easy DIY kids desk. Seriously.

Using plywood and wooden table legs, ‘Southern Yankee DIY’ teaches you how to make a kids desk and stool, the easy way! A simple box construction gives you some cubby-style storage, and the stool slides right underneath the desk. And let’s face it, that cool, color-block style paint job is so fun! Customize it to your child, whether they’re a pink princess or prince, or are more into black and grey modern. Or, anything in between. Or leave it all natural and just seal it.

The ‘Balen’ kids desk with hutch is kinda the ultimate piece of furniture for your child, big or small. The height adjusts to grow with your child. The top also tilts and locks into place, so they can use it for everything from artwork to homework. Tons of storage. Pegboard, reading holder that’s ergonomically designed, and large drawers. The desktop is erasable for those with little ones. A bit pricey, but free shipping and this piece will last for years!

This kids double desk is perfect if you’re setting up a room for homeschooling. You could even put four smaller ones here to learn. Lifetime warranty and Greenguard Gold certified to be made with clean materials. Overhead storage for textbooks, and a dry-erase sliding door. Kid-safe corners and edges, and made in the USA. Totally worth the investment. Like I mentioned, I homeschooled my kids for a while when they were young, and this kind of desk would have been so helpful. Get this Jonti-Craft desk from ‘Wayfair’ with free shipping.

You can find other kids desk ideas with free shipping at ‘Wayfair’, ‘Amazon’, and ‘Target’.

In conclusion, with these DIY kids desk ideas, you can create a functional and fun learning space for your child. Whether you choose to make one from scratch or purchase a pre-made one, the key is to find a space that fits your child’s needs and your family’s lifestyle. With a little creativity and some basic building skills, you can create a kids desk that will last for years to come.

Indian Vernacular Guides Earth-Clad Gulzar’s House

Field Architects Learns from Ladakh Tradition

Field Architects has completed Gulzar’s Residence, a home that thoughtfully integrates the vernacular practices of northern India’s remote and mountainous region of Ladakh. Shaped by the region’s harsh climate, culture, and traditions, the project draws on centuries of evolution in local architecture. The studio’s design for the residence embraces local materials and techniques while focusing on human habitation in harmony with the environment. This approach acknowledges Ladakh’s unique high-altitude desert setting and honors the adaptations made by generations of inhabitants in response to the area’s natural and social conditions.

Gulzar’s Residence is located in Chuchot, a small village discovered along the banks of the Indus River in the Ladakh region. The house enjoys stunning views of the Thiksey Monastery and the Stok mountain range, making the location both picturesque and steeped in history. The client, a local naturalist and conservationist, wanted a home that would reflect his deep connection to the land while embracing a modern aesthetic. Field Architects designed the house to stand in dialogue with the valley, taking full advantage of the site’s natural beauty and sunlight.

    A Double-Height Space for Stargazing

At the core of Gulzar’s Residence, the team at Field Architects reinterpreted traditional Ladakhi architecture with a minimalist and contemporary design language. The house centers around a spacious living area and includes two master bedrooms, a study, and a combined kitchen and dining space. Field Architects deconstructed the region’s vernacular elements and refined them into modern forms, creating a space that feels timeless while rooted in Ladakhi tradition. The structure is primarily built with locally sourced materials, including adobe and timber, ensuring that the house complements its natural surroundings.

The design features an expansive, south-facing, double-height living room with timber-framed glazing. This dramatic space invites ample sunlight during the day and offers opportunities for stargazing at night. The southeast corner of the house includes a traditional ‘shelkhang,’ or solarium, designed with an expansive timber structure and glazing that maximizes views of the surrounding valley. These spaces highlight the design’s ability to blend traditional architectural elements with modern living.

    Sustainable Materials and local Craftsmanship

Field Architects ensures that Gulzar’s Residence reflects the craft and materiality of the region. The exterior of the house is finished with a pinstriped earthen plaster, a texture carefully crafted by local artisans, giving the structure an artisanal touch. Inside, lime and earthen plasters further enhance the minimalist design, allowing the home to feel both contemporary and deeply connected to traditional Ladakhi craftsmanship. The residence’s use of locally sourced and sustainable materials further ties into the architect’s philosophy of harmonizing with the environment.

The home is designed with energy efficiency in mind, using a double-wall adobe construction with repurposed army mattresses for insulation. It is oriented to the solar south, maximizing winter sunlight while maintaining a comfortable indoor climate year-round. The structure sits on a sturdy dry stone masonry foundation with earth berms surrounding it to prevent heat loss. This passive solar heating design is essential for keeping the house warm in the extreme winters and cool during the summer, providing a comfortable living environment despite the region’s sub-zero temperatures.

    Conclusion:

Field Architects’ Gulzar’s Residence is a testament to the fusion of tradition and modernity, showcasing the studio’s commitment to sustainability and cultural sensitivity. By embracing local materials and techniques, the design not only honors the region’s rich heritage but also creates a unique and harmonious living space that blends seamlessly into its surroundings.

  • DIY Stock Tank Pool Ideas!

    DIY Stock Tank Pool Ideas!

    Here is the rewritten article:

Is an Olympic-sized lap pool not in your budget? We get it. For summer fun in the backyard, try this easy stock tank pool project that uses supplies from the farm and ranch store.

Stock tank pools are the perfect plunge pool to cool off from the heat, yet take up very little space and don’t cost a lot to DIY. You can install them above ground or dig them in. They don’t have to look like it came from a farm store, either!

People create wrap-around decks, dedicated patios, and even waterfall fountains for them! Choose galvanized stock tank pools or plastic – poly for an in-ground version. Loving this fun idea!

How Do I Make a DIY Stock Tank Pool? – Tips & Ideas!

So there are lots of ways you can go about setting up a stock tank pool. You can be as simple or complex as you want. Some people simply fill their tank with water and just drain and refill it as necessary. Others create a more traditional “pool” by adding pool pumps, filters, and chlorine. These tutorials walk you through all different viewpoints. Worried about problems with your pool? Here are a couple of the most common concerns, and how you can deal with them.

    Potential Problems & Solutions

Don’t these stock tank swimming pools breed mosquitoes?

Any standing water can potentially breed mosquitoes. You can either use a pump to keep water moving (they only breed in still water), cover the tank when not in use with mosquito netting, or use pool chemicals to control them.

Does the galvanized metal get hot and burn you?

Metal does get hot in the summer sun. Make sure you position your pool under afternoon shade. You can also cut a pool noodle in half lengthwise, then wrap it around the rim of the pool. This will keep you from getting burned when getting in or out of the pool. BTW, you can also buy stock tanks in a commercial plastic version instead of metal.

    How do you prevent algae?

Once again, you have choices. Change your pool water frequently, or use pool filters and chemicals.

    Do these look “trashy”?

We’ll let you make that judgment once you’ve scrolled down and checked out all the tutorials, as well as our Instagram inspiration. Our vote? Trendy, not trashy!

Where To Buy Stock Tanks to Create Your Pool

You have a few options depending on what size stock tank pool you want and where you are located. If you happen to have a farm supply store near you, that might be your best bet. Up until recently, you used to be able to get some great deals on a couple versions from Amazon. But unfortunately, they’re not available on Amazon right now.

Your best bet now is to buy from Tractor Supply Co. They have locations all over the country. You can order online and do curbside pickup at the nearest store. If you want to do an in-ground plastic stock tank pool, TSC also carries those as well. But we have to say, we love the look of the above-ground galvanized metal.

We also found a website – TankAndBarrel.com – and they seem to have quite a few choices of steel round tanks, and they do ship, but it looks like the freight costs are pretty spendy! They’re located in Nebraska – so if you happen to be near them, I’m pretty sure you could pick up.

Again, many other farm supply stores may carry them as well.

No need to decorate for fall with tacky, plastic, fake items when the real thing is charming, more tasteful, and easily creates a beautiful fall feeling in your home. Here are 13 easy & cheap fall decor ideas for you to get your natural fall style on!

Easy & Cheap Fall Decor Ideas

    Decorating with Mini Pumpkins

    1. Use a pumpkin as a vase for fresh flowers. Clean out the guts and seeds and use the pumpkin to arrange your flowers. Taller ones work well, but so will squatty pumpkins if you cut your flower stems short. Or try this non-traditional look from ‘Green Wedding Shoes’. They have an easy DIY on how to make mini pumpkins into a table centerpiece. How elegant and easy is this cheap fall decor idea?

    Make a Fall Craft

    2. Make a topiary out of a foam form (conical shapes always work well) and hot glue a variety of large seeds, acorns, walnuts, pinecones to the form. Completely cover the foam. Easy and makes a wonderful piece for any table or countertop. Or, make this dollar store fall leaf tree from ‘Kim Six Fix’! Full tutorial…

    Preserve Fall Leaves

    3. Pick brightly colored fallen leaves. Rub a good moisturizer onto the front and back of the leaves and let dry. This helps the leaves keep their color and avoid curling. Once dry, scatter the leaves on a table, around a centerpiece, or on a fireplace mantle. Learn how to preserve fall leaves with a little Mod Podge from Shannon at ‘Madigan Made’.

Cheap Fall Decor from The Supermarket

    4. Fill a tall vase or extra-large brandy snifter with a variety of colorful miniature pumpkins and gourds. This quick & inexpensive fall decorating idea is from ‘One Kings Lane’.

    11. Take tall corn stalks and attach to porch columns or mailbox or even trees with a large fall-colored ribbon. Further accent with pumpkins or mums around the base. Just like Pam at ‘House of Hawthornes’ did here!

Use Nature to Decorate for Fall

    12. Cut long branches with colored leaves still attached (see instructions above to prevent bringing bugs into your home). Place in a tall vase or an umbrella stand. Be sure the branches are proportionate to the vase or stand.

    Use Mums for Fall Style

    13. Use potted mums to replace your summer flowers in flower beds, on porches, near fireplace hearths, in corner of rooms this classic never goes out of style. To give added height within a group, place one potted mum on a miniature straw bale. We love how April at ‘House by Hoff’ added just a touch of inexpensive fall decorating style to this vignette with cheery yellow Mums and vases of dried branches and grasses. And if you are in awe over her DIY song lyric sign, lucky for you, she has a tutorial!

When it comes to taking care of our homes, spring is the time of year that many of us actually look forward to cleaning our home and then freshening the decor to greet the warmer months of the year.

This spring, I started the seasonal ritual in my bedroom. After a thorough room cleaning, when I placed my previous spring/summer bedding that was going on 6 years on the bed, it looked worn and faded. After years of use and many washings, it was time to go in search of new blue and white bedding.

It was exactly the look I was envisioning to go in the room for the warmer months of the year. The bedspread is: extremely comfortable to the touch, well-made with beautiful quilted detailing and texture, reversible, and just the right weight for spring and summer.

I was so excited to find a bedspread that met all my criteria and best of all, it was affordable.

After finding the bedspread, I browsed the Bedsure website and their Amazon Shop to see if I could find coordinating bedding essentials to go with it. I did!

Even though the color scheme in my bedroom stayed the same, the new Bedsure bedding makes not only the bed feel fresh & new, but the whole room is lighter & brighter now… and a whole lot cleaner. 🙂 Just the way spring should look and feel!
