The project gathers a small constellation of buildings by Norwegian studios, creating a community that rethinks how visitors engage with the region’s raw and exposed environment.

    The Vipp guesthouse continues a lineage of simple wooden structures that once supported the fishing culture of Lofoten, Norway. For centuries, Storemolla’s skippers anchored their boats beside modest one-story rorbuer cottages raised on stilts above the tide. LOGG ARKITEKTER extends that vernacular logic with a structure that reads as both cabin and boathouse, resting on slender stilts anchored in the rock.

    ‘The intention was to dissolve the boundary between shelter and seascape,’ explains Diederik Advocaat Clausen of LOGG ARKITEKTER. ‘Each unit is a precise timber structure, designed with minimal expression and a strong directional focus toward the sea.’ The cabin’s weathered wood exterior and sharp geometry make it appear at once transient and in place — an architecture that respects the vastness of its setting.

    Arctic Hospitality in Lofoten

    True North Lofoten Village emerged from a shared ambition to create a responsible model of Arctic hospitality. Snøhetta’s Kjetil Trædal Thorsen describes the challenge as one of quiet integration: ‘Working in a place as breathtaking and ecologically sensitive as Lofoten demands a meaningful response. True North Village honors the region’s heritage by engaging in dialogue with the landscape and the local community.’

    This measured approach extends to the project’s rhythm of built and unbuilt space. Between each cabin, the terrain remains untouched — moss, stone, and seaweed forming the connective tissue of the village. The architecture, intentionally sparse, acts as an invitation to inhabit the environment rather than frame it.

    For Vipp, the Lofoten guesthouse represents the thirteenth entry in its growing portfolio of bookable retreats. ‘Our palette of guesthouses explores different architectural typologies,’ says Kasper Egelund, CEO and third-generation owner. ‘The products remain constant, but the surroundings transform the experience. The museum’s massing and voids are designed to trace the contours of the surrounding hills, creating an introverted structure that blends seamlessly into the landscape.

    Approached from a forest road, the entrance to the museum is revealed gradually. Visitors walk beneath a cantilevered bridge that frames a still courtyard at the center of the composition. This inner garden defines the museum’s orientation, with its water surface mirroring the faceted underbelly of the concrete volumes above. The experience is buffered by the mountain’s canopy and the cool air rising from the shaded voids below the structure.

    Architecture and Design

    Inside the museum, movement follows a circular route that is carefully curated by the architects at ZAO to mirror the museum’s organic plan. The galleries expand and contract as one progresses, forming a rhythm of compression and release. Narrow passageways lead to larger chambers, while sloped ramps connect the shifting floor levels. The transitions are smooth and deliberate, guiding visitors through a changing sequence of light, texture, and framed views of the landscape beyond.

    The polygonal geometry of the building allows the galleries to project outward toward the courtyard. These extensions, sharp-edged volumes with large panoramic glazing, create visual exchanges between interior and exterior. From within, the forest becomes a suspended backdrop to the artworks. From the courtyard, the galleries appear as floating rooms in conversation with one another.

    Materiality and Atmosphere

    The entire structure is cast in concrete mixed with black ink pigment, giving the surface a muted, graphite-like tonality that deepens under varying light conditions. The texture, left exposed, bears the imprint of timber formwork, lending warmth to the otherwise monolithic material. The play between light and concrete defines the atmosphere: daylight entering through angular apertures shifts across the rough walls, while at dusk, interior illumination casts faint glows into the courtyard.

    This material uniformity heightens the museum’s relationship with its setting. Against the lush green of the mountain, the dark concrete reads as a man-made strata within a geological landscape. The architecture of ZAO / standardarchitecture remains grounded in this contrast, where solid and void, enclosure and view, are held in careful balance.

    In the courtyard, the mirrored pools and exposed concrete planes evoke the character of a scholar’s garden reinterpreted through modern form.     Designed with accessibility in mind, its ground floor features multiple entry points, a transparent facade, and a welcoming atmosphere.     Meeting spaces and event rooms occupy the upper floors, culminating in the Canopy Hall, a large conference space with an adjoining terrace and expansive views of Boston. The sustainably harvested timber structure, also expressed on the facade, defines the Treehouse’s identity as an innovative and environmentally conscious building.

    Canted timber columns branch outward like a tree to support a cantilevered upper floor, while each facade is inflected to shape how the Treehouse engages its surroundings. The north and south elevations extend outward to welcome visitors, and the east and west fold inward to open pedestrian pathways. This rhythmic geometry gives the building a sculptural presence that simultaneously draws people in and connects to the landscape designed by SCAPE.

    The Treehouse is designed to encourage interaction. Informal gathering areas include open atrium landings, central stairways, and an expansive upper-level porch that offers the sensation of being among the treetops. The central elevators, integrated into the public lobby, feature shafts styled as tree trunks, adding a whimsical touch to the journey through the building while offering sweeping views from every level.

    A Model for Low-Carbon Institutional Architecture

    Sustainability drives every aspect of the design. The Treehouse’s embodied carbon is 55% lower than that of a comparable conventional structure, achieved through the use of responsibly sourced wood and concrete made from ground glass pozzolan, a recycled cement substitute. The building operates without on-site fossil fuel combustion and draws power from rooftop solar panels and Harvard’s District Energy Facility, which supplies heating, cooling, and electricity.

    Natural daylighting and a self-shading facade reduce energy use, while a raised floor system conceals building services and enhances efficiency. Healthy interior materials and finishes, free from harmful chemical classes such as PFAS, promote occupant wellbeing and air quality. The landscape supports biodiversity and stormwater management through bioswales and a rainwater reuse system, creating a lush micro-ecosystem that attracts wildlife. The Rubenstein Treehouse is among the first completed projects of Harvard’s Enterprise Research Campus, a new mixed-use district transforming former industrial land in Allston into a dynamic center for research and innovation.

The facade, clad in smooth white panels, is punctured by triangular apertures that taper upward with measured rhythm, filtering daylight into the interiors. At sunset, the building’s surface absorbs the shifting amber tones of the sky, softening its engineered geometry into something quietly atmospheric.

    Within the surrounding landscape, a procession of palms lines the approach, their shadows repeating the rhythm of the facade. The structure’s base meets the water through a subtle overhang, giving the impression that the museum floats.

The building’s outer shell is smooth and continuous, and conceals an interior landscape of concrete volumes and curving voids that guide movement and frame sightlines.

    When complete, the Dubai Museum of Art will become a new focal point in Dubai. It will host exhibitions, discussions, and educational programs. Backdropped by Dubai’s skyline, Tadao Ando’s upcoming work will distill his enduring design philosophy into a single gesture.

    A few weeks ago, I got a text from Finn that said we had a puddle of water underneath the kitchen sink. Ugh. Not the best text message to receive. After investigating further, we realized that the water was dripping from our garbage disposal. I figured that it might just be a loose pipe, but it was actually coming from the base of the old unit. A nice slow drip. I did a bit of research online and learned that if the disposal housing is leaking, it probably needs to be replaced altogether.

    Ours was 13 years old, and the typical lifespan of a garbage disposal is about 10–12 years, so it was official – we needed a new one.

    I took a look at my week ahead and saw I was pretty slammed with projects, so I headed to Angie’s List to find a plumber to fix this issue quickly. I found a plumber, but he couldn’t come out for about 4 days and he was going to charge me $320. ($120 for the new disposal and $200 for labor)

    That’s when I decided I should just DIY this project and figure it out myself. Because if I was going to have to wait a few days and shell out that much money, I might as well give this project a shot in the meantime. Wiring a garbage disposal Spoiler alert: This project was WAY easier than I thought it would be. I blocked off four hours on my calendar, but the entire garbage disposal replacement took just about an hour.

    The design reflects on San Miguel’s origins — founded in the 16th century when Franciscan friars introduced grape cultivation to Mexico — and acknowledges how imported traditions were adapted to a new environment.

    Architecture and viticulture, both brought across the Atlantic, evolved differently once exposed to the local soil, light, and climate. Casa San Francisco continues that dialogue by translating the contemplative spatial order of conventual architecture into a contemporary domestic setting.

    Architecture of Five Volumes

    The team at Jorge Garibay Architects organizes its Casa San Francisco around a central corridor that runs laterally through five distinct volumes. Each volume opens onto a landscaped area, allowing uninterrupted views of the surrounding vineyard and hills. Entry occurs through a double-height vestibule that filters the transition from exterior to interior, emphasizing the progression from the openness of the landscape to the intimacy of the home.

    The western side houses the communal spaces — the living room, dining room, kitchen, terrace, garage, and service areas — while the eastern wing is reserved for four bedrooms. This clear separation of uses gives the plan a sense of measured rhythm, echoing the linear geometry of vineyard rows. Movement through the corridor reveals a series of framed perspectives, each calibrated to the shifting daylight and seasonal growth beyond.

    On the edge of Bolzano, Italy, a new neighborhood designed by NOA is set to take shape. Located within the South Tyrolean landscape, Renneria explores a model of development based on agricultural continuity and everyday livability. The 13-hectare site in Pineta di Laives — named after 14th-century farmstead Maso Renner — embodies respect for history and contemporary ambition.

    Project Overview

    Promoted by the Gazzini real estate group, the project transforms a formerly agricultural area bordered by existing settlements and infrastructure. It offers a considered response to one of the region’s most urgent challenges: the need for sustainable housing growth. ‘Renneria’s location makes it naturally suited to accommodate a new district,’ explain Luca and Matteo Gazzini. ‘Bordering a settlement, an artisan district, and an arterial road, it already belongs to an urbanized fabric. Renneria harmoniously completes this development.’

    NOA’s Renneria masterplan introduces around 800 residential units within a system that integrates housing, workspaces, education, and leisure. The architects‘ masterplan reflects the studio’s belief in functional proximity — a model where services are within reach, and movement occurs on foot, by bicycle, or public transport. Streets become linear gardens, courtyards encourage interaction, and the organization mimics a compact village. ‘Four words guided our vision: residential, cultural, communal, and collaborative,’ says Lukas Rungger, NOA’s founder and project architect. ‘Residential, because we offer diverse and inclusive housing typologies.     The neighborhood’s public life is organized between three squares. ‘They are designed for social interaction, safety, and urban vibrancy,’ explains Andrea Dal Negro, architect at NOA. ‘Through fountains, trees, and paving variations, these spaces act as outdoor living rooms, active throughout the year.‘ Each square establishes a distinct character: the southern one for markets, the central one for cafés and shops, and the northern one for education, with student housing and workshops interwoven with play and learning. Mobility follows a clear hierarchy. A ring road borders the site, with underground parking at key points. Inside, streets prioritize greenery and slow movement. Pedestrian and cycling paths define the internal grid, reinforced by three kilometers of bike lanes.

    Architecture and Landscape

    Architecturally, Renneria evolves from the terrain itself. NOA’s concept of ‘extruding the landscape‘ transforms contour lines into built form. Facades are clad in timber slats — horizontal for residential volumes, vertical for civic buildings — creating a quiet interplay of texture and rhythm beneath the Dolomite light. Green roofs extend this dialogue, functioning as communal gardens and energy buffers. ‘The buildings vary in height to preserve panoramic views and maximize natural light and ventilation,‘ says Dal Negro. ‘For public structures on sloping ground, entrances appear on multiple levels, producing layered, engaging spaces.‘

    From its entrance forecourt, the Museum extends outward toward the pyramids along a precise visual axis. The roofline rises in correspondence with the horizon of the three pyramids but never overtakes them. This composition frames the monuments as an ever-present backdrop, visible from within the museum’s grand rooms.

    Geometries Draw from Monumental Context

    With the design of the Grand Egyptian Museum, the architects at heneghan peng draw from the geometries embedded in its context. The museum’s internal walls radiate from a fixed point near the entrance to create a fanned floor plan that subtly directs movement toward the west. More than just a symbol, this organization informs light, circulation, and the visitor’s shifting relationship with the landscape.

    The structure itself, largely cast in concrete, mediates the desert’s extreme conditions through mass and shade. This way, comfortable interior temperatures are achieved through the use of passive methods across the vast exhibition halls.

    A monumental staircase runs through the building’s core, ascending six stories. The route moves from Egypt’s earliest settlements to its Coptic era, culminating in the Tutankhamen Gallery where over 5,000 artifacts are displayed together for the first time. This ascent through time is punctuated by statues and architectural fragments displayed along the landings.

The material palette extends even to performance. The dense concrete shell stabilizes fluctuating temperatures and reduces mechanical cooling demands. Meanwhile, the controlled use of glass and shading devices calibrates the transition between interior and exterior light levels.

    Landscaped Gardens and Conservation Facilities
